Powerful Spinach Can Prevent senile

Spinach contains vitamin C and beta-carotene which is good.

Good news for those who like spinach. Those who are fond of eating vegetables is not only a health benefit for the body, but also have a lower risk of dementia or senility. Quoted by the Daily Mail, University of Ulm German study revealed a high content of antioxidants in spinach effective against the symptoms of dementia.

The study involved 74 participants with mild memory impairment and 158 healthy participants. Age range 65-90 years. In addition to neuropsychological tests required to answer questions about lifestyle, they also undergo blood tests and measurements of body mass index.

The study, led by a Professor Gabriele Nagel epidemiologist and neurologist Professor Christine von Arnim found concentrations of serum antioxidants vitamin C and beta-carotene were significantly lower in participants with mild dementia group compared to healthy participants.

There is no difference in the levels of other antioxidants such as vitamin E, lycopene, and coenzyme Q10. "Longitudinal studies with more participants are needed to confirm the results of the vitamin C and beta-carotene may prevent the development and onset of dementia or Alzheimer's disease."

Dementia or Alzheimer's have symptoms such as forgetfulness, lack of orientation, cognitive decline. It all happened due to changes in brain structure, including amyloid-beta plaques, degeneration and loss of synapses fibrillae. While oxidative stress, which inhibits the circulation of oxygen in the body, is also thought to contribute strongly to develop this memory impairment.

In addition to spinach, Nagel and Arnim who published their study in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease also reveals similar benefits in other antioxidant-rich food such as carrots, apricots, and grapefruit.
